Abstract:

Background and Objectives: Solid Pseudo-Papillary Tumor (SPPT) is a benign and rare neoplasm which transforms to malignant from in fewer than 1 to 2 percent of cases. In more than 90% of the cases, it appears in young women ages 20 to 40 years old. Although SPPT is a benign tumor, it has special potential for mild malignancy. Case Report: The patient was an 18-year old woman with abdominal mass, headache, fever, chill, decreased appetite, pallor and dysuria who referred to Shahid Sadooghi hospital of Yazd, Iran in July 2007. In examination, a firm inflated, mobile, and painless mass with distinct borders was palpated in the left upper abdominal quadrant. This mass was 16 cm in diameter. In CT scan a large hypodense mass with thick wall and crossing the center line on the right side of spine was prominent. Microscopic evaluations after the surgery showed tumoral cells of small polyhedral core elliptical, pseudopapillary processes trabeculs with diffused fibrosis, atrophy acinar and mild infiltration of chronic inflammatory cells in the tumors margins. Conclusion: The final diagnosis in this patient was SPPT, a primary neoplasm of the pancreas. Its etiology is unknown and has low potential to turn into malignant form. It should be considered, especially in young women. Complete removal of the mass is the preferred treatment of the patients. Patients with local recurrence or metastasis can have long term survival after complete removal of the mass.

Abstract:

Introduction: Solid and cystic papillary epithelial neoplasm of pancreas is a rare neoplasm with low malignant potential which often occurs in young women. The tumor is usually large and encapsulated. Microscopic examination reveals small round cells with papillary-configuration in a delicate vascular stroma. Case Report: The cases presented in this report were 2 women at the age of 15 & 26 who were both injured by striking. Radiologic findings revealed retroperitoneal mass. Both patients have not had any problem after surgery yet. Conclusion: In this neoplasm, surgery is treatment of choice and definite diagnosis is made by histology and immunohistochemistry. Patients have excellent long-time prognosis.

AN INVESTIGATION ON OXYGEN MASS TRANSFER IN A LAB-SCALE MULTI-IMPELLER STIRRED TANK REACTOR IS REPORTED. AN ANALYSIS OF THE MAIN FACTORS INFLUENCING OXYGEN MASS TRANSFER IN STIRRED TANK HAS BEEN CARRIED OUT USING FULL FACTORIAL. THE FACTORS INVESTIGATED WERE: AGITATION VELOCITY (RPM), AERATION RATE (VVM) AND SOLID HOLD-UP. THE ANOVA (ANALYSIS OF VARIANCE) SHOWED THE IMPORTANCE OF THE INVESTIGATED FACTORS ON THE OXYGEN MASS TRANSFER COEFFICIENT. AN EMPIRICAL MODEL WITH OPERATIONAL PARAMETERS HAS BEEN PROPOSED IN ORDER TO PREDICT THE OXYGEN MASS TRANSFER IN SEVERAL EXPERIMENTAL CONDITIONS. AN INVESTIGATION HAS ALSO BEEN PERFORMED ON THE OXYGEN MASS TRANSFER IN A LAB-SCALE REACTOR, CONSIDERING AGITATION VELOCITY, AERATION RATE AND SOLID HOLD-UP AS FACTORS HAVE BEEN ESTIMATED. THE SOLID PARTICLES PRESENCE CAUSED A 10% FOR SLURRY 5% AND 15% FOR SLURRY 10% REDUCTION IN KLA. THE RELATIONSHIPS PROPOSED HAVE BEEN OBTAINED IN A WIDE RANGE OF EXPERIMENTAL CONDITIONS, AND THEY CAN BE USED BOTH TO DETERMINE IF OXYGEN LIMITING CONDITIONS OCCUR DURING BIOLEACHING TESTS IN A LAB-SCALE STIRRED REACTOR, AND, IN THE PHASE OF TRANSLATION OF EXPERIMENTAL DATA TO A BIGGER SCALE. THIS MODEL CAN USE FOR PREDICTION OXYGEN MASS TRANSFER LIMITING IN THE BIOLEACHING URANIUM. THE RESULTS OBTAINED IN THIS WORK EMPHASIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF INCORPORATING THE EFFECTS OF PHYSICAL GAS-LIQUID-SOLID INTERACTIONS IN THE DESIGN OF MECHANICALLY-AGITATED THREE-PHASE SLURRY REACTORS.

Background and aims: The chlorobenzene is an intermediate chemical used in the production of commodities such as herbicides, dyestuffs, and rubber industry. However, it may cause neurological complications and have effects on the respiratory tract. In this research solid phase micro extraction (SPME) was used for the sampling of chlorobenzene in air. The optimum conditions for analysis with Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) were determined Methods: The sampling of chlorobenzene was done in a dynamic atmosphere generation system with SPME. A kind of fiber was selected and the optimum temperature and desorption time in injection port of GC were determined and results were compared with the NIOSH-1003 method. Samples were analyzed by GC-MS.Results: Carboxen-Polydimethylsiloxane (CAR/PDMS) in retracted mode had high absorption compared to other fibers and was selected for sampling. Desorption temperature in the injector of GC were also optimized in three levels from 200 to 280 and no significant difference were observed for extraction of analyte from SPME (p>0.05). The equilibrium time at exposed condition in SPME was 30 minute but equilibrium time is extended for several hours in retracted mode. There were no significant differences between sampling rates at different temperatures and air velocities (p>0.05) but, the increase of relative humidity (RH) had a negative effect on sampling rates (p<0.05).Conclusion: It is concluded that SPME in retracted mode is an alternative method for determination of chlorobenzene in air and could be applied as a passive method for the determination of the time weight average (TWA) of chlorobenzene in workplaces.

Abstract:

In this paper, modeling approaches were given for explaining mass transfer during solid-liquid extraction in continuous fixed, expanded, and fluidized-bed extractors. The first approach utilizes a differential mass balance-based model, focusing on the differential mass conservation within an element of fixed and expanded-bed columns. The second approach employs a model by applying a mass balance concept to a control volume of the fluidized-bed column. The differential mass balance method segments the column into well-mixed stages, with the fluid flowing axially in an ideal plug flow regime. The solute diffusion inside the porous particles is modeled using Fick's second law of diffusion. Modeling parameters like the effective diffusivity and equilibrium concentration were estimated using the batch extraction experiments. These models were developed and validated using experimental column data involving the extraction of potassium bicarbonate from polyamide 6 pellets with distilled water as the solvent. The modeling results show a good agreement with experimental data.

Abstract:

In this article, effects of heat and mass transfer on MHD peristaltic motion of solid particles in a dusty fluid has been investigated. The effects of nonlinear thermal radiation and Hall Effect are also taken into account. The relevant flow analysis is modelled for fluid phase and dust phase in wave frame. Computation of solutions is presented for velocity profile, temperature profile and concentration profile. The impact of all the physical parameters such as particle volume fraction, Hartmann number, Hall Effect, Prandtl number, Eckert number, Schmidt number and Soret number are discussed mathematically and graphically. It is noted that the influence of magnetic field and particle volume fraction opposes the flow. Also, the impact of particle volume fraction is quite opposite on temperature and concentration profile.
